Common questions
The same answers as Preferences → Help & Support inside the app.
How do I save a quote?
Open the collection you want it in and tap the + button in its header. If the collection is empty, the card in its place does the same thing.
How do I scan a quote off a page?
While adding or editing a quote, tap Scan Text and point the camera at the page. The shot freezes once the text holds steady, then you can pinch to zoom and drag across exactly the words you want before inserting them. Tap Rescan to take a different shot. All of the text recognition happens on your device.
Can I add a book by scanning it?
Yes. In a book collection, choose Add Book → Scan ISBN and point the camera at the barcode on the back cover. You can also search by title or author, or add the book manually if it isn't found.
Can I reorder or hide sections on Home?
Preferences → Home Content. You can show, hide, and reorder your collection sections there, and add a new category.
Where are my quotes stored?
On your device, and — while iCloud Sync is on — in your own private iCloud account. Both of those are yours: nothing is uploaded to a server of ours, and there's no account to create with us. Sync is on unless you switch it off, in Preferences or on the first-run screens. Full detail is in the privacy policy.
Something's not right
The three that come up most often.
The widget is showing an older quote
Featured quotes change once a day. The widget refreshes on a schedule iOS controls, so it can lag behind the app by a while.
iCloud Sync isn't updating my other device
Check that both devices are signed into the same Apple Account with iCloud Drive on, and that Sync is enabled in Preferences on each. Syncing happens in the background and isn't instant — it can take a few minutes, and it pauses in Low Power Mode.
My quotes disappeared after reinstalling
If iCloud Sync was off, your library only ever existed on the device, and deleting the app removed it with no copy left behind. With Sync on beforehand, reinstalling and signing into the same Apple Account restores it.
